The Center for Implementation supports people to plan for implementation that will lead them to effective change. Planning for adaptations is a fundamental aspect of implementation.
We first developed the Map2Adapt process in 2020. Since then, we have revised the process and developed an interactive online tool (this tool) and a Map2Adapt guide (coming soon) that walks you through activities and decision points of the Map2Adapt process to help you proactively plan for adaptations.
Important note: This is an advanced tool, which assumes that you have the foundational knowledge of selecting change strategies (e.g., defining the WHO, the WHAT, and the HOWs), and conducting a context assessment. You can learn more about these through the StrategEase course.

This tool can help individuals and teams through the process of planning and reflecting on adaptations. It can be used as a roadmap to help you understand where you are in the process. It can also be shared and discussed during team meetings. We anticipate that people will revisit this tool multiple times throughout the implementation process.

Part of our foundational equity work was to examine important research related to equity and implementation, and synthesize key guiding questions from research and practice that can help people reflect on equity at every step of Map2Adapt. These guiding questions are provided to users of this tool.

We would like to acknowledge and thank the researchers who have developed the theories, frameworks, and approaches that have contributed to the development of Map2Adapt. Without their amazing efforts, this tool would not have been possible. The activities described in this tool have been drawn from a combination of the FRAME framework, the FRAME-IS framework, Ecological Validity Framework, the MADI process model, a description of adaptations in natural contexts, IM-ADAPT, and a systematic review of adaptation frameworks.
We would like to give special thank you to Drs. Vanessa Tomas, Andrea Chaplin, Tatiana Bustos and Jose Rubén Parra-Cardona for their thoughtful reflections and support in the development of Map2Adapt.
Additionally, we want to thank all the professionals who participated in our user-testing sessions and generously shared their time, insights, and experiences to help us build the Map2Adapt tool.
